She’s back! Nice post Sue. You really have me thinking now. I need to come up with a thoughtful and personal follow-up for clients that I may not have heard from in awhile.

Sue, you’re right that you should follow up. There is a difference between being pushy and simply following up in a nice way, because you know you have a great product and either the person was interested at some point or you think he/she might be interested. The other way to look at it is that you’re qualifying your customer. Someone who is interested but not right now? Make a note to follow up later. Someone who will never be interested? Take him/her off your list.

In my other life I sell Epicure spices. This isn’t a sales pitch, but here’s why a busy corporate communicator also got into direct sales: a Canadian company, no MSG, no dyes, no preservatives, just great spice blends and professional-quality cookware. Anyway, long story short, I have always felt awkward following up because I didn’t want to “bother” people, would have felt pushy, etc. I think I’ve been wrong, and I need to kick start things by following up!
